Wireless Intercom Systems
One basic choice that you have to make when purchasing an Intercom System is between a wireless or hard wired system. Both systems have their pro’s and con’s and usually the deciding factor lies with the construction of the dwelling or office and how much you are willing to spend on installation.
For simple do it yourself installation you can’t go past a wireless system. Many of these systems have a central hub that can accommodate pre-programmed motion sensor’s and digital camera’s that are triggered to start capturing images when motion is detected. Great for screening visitors to your front door which you can then communicate with via the Intercom System.
The disadvantages of a wireless system is that particularly in brick buildings there can be a number of dead spots where the signal can’t travel to. Placement of the main unit and secondary units needs to be considered carefully and it may be a case of moving some around until you get them all working perfectly.
The power supply requirements is another thing to consider with a wireless system. Some systems use a AC to DC transformer which will obviously need to be plugged into a wall socket which can limit your placement choices.
A system that relies on battery power has the advantage of being able to be positioned pretty much wherever you like, but has the disadvantage of needing regular battery changes although if the power goes out a battery powered system keeps working which can be a plus.
Another advantage to a wireless system is if you are careful when mounting the units there is no reason why you can’t take it with you when you move house or change offices.

Apart from the major differences in specifications… a majority of people now opt for the wireless systems… mainly because it gives it the ” modern ” and ” sophisticated ” feel.
